Coastal, Ocean, and Marine Enterprise Inclusion and Network-building
Charrette Recap
Charrette Information
December 1 and 15, 2021
As part of the COME IN project, we brought together scientists, stakeholders, and partners from the various coastal, ocean, and marine (COM) science disciplines for a series of facilitated virtual engagement opportunities beginning with a virtual charrette that took place on December 1 and 15, 2021. The objectives of this two-day event were to:
- Identify who is actively engaged in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and/or Justice (DEIJ) internship/fellowship and conference programming
- Understand best practices currently being implemented in the COM science enterprise (internship, fellowship, and DEIJ conference activities)
- Identify and understand institutional roadblocks (what has not worked and why), and highlight challenges
The COME IN team would like to thank everyone who participated in our first event. The project team, our partners, and members of our broader community learned a tremendous amount from each other through our discussions. The project team has summarized the information collected as part of this event, focusing on what is currently working and not working with respect to increasing participation of students from historically marginalized and underserved communities in coastal and marine sciences, and looks forward to sharing our summary with the COM community.
We are incredibly thankful for our featured keynotes and panelists, including Dr. Aradhna Tripati, Dr. Brandon Jones, Dr. Brittany King, Catalina Martinez, Dr. Corey Garza, and Dr. Jeannette Davis, Dr. Lisa White, Dr. Treda Grayson, and Dr. Vernon Morris, among others, who participated and openly shared their perspectives and insight.
We encourage you to watch the selected recordings from our first event (below) and welcome you to share these resources with members of your institution or organization to help our community learn from each other and advance our collective DEIJ goals.
