Women in Science Scholarship
The Women in Science Scholarship supports women in the atmospheric, oceanic, and climate sciences, and related areas of study. The scholarship was established to acknowledge that gender diversity is essential in the pursuit of better science. Applicants must be entering their final year of undergraduate study in the fall, be pursuing a degree in the atmospheric or related sciences, and have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0-point scale.

Aquarium of the Pacific

African American Scholar Program at the Aquarium of the Pacific
The program awards funds to support African American students who demonstrate a commitment to studies related to careers in the aquarium field, including ocean education, animal husbandry, water quality, building maintenance or facilities, microbiology, and business management. Through this program, the Aquarium hopes to bring meaningful opportunities in the marine sciences to African American students and to bring diverse minds to solving the issues facing our planet and its inhabitants. The scholarship is available to residents of California of any age with African American heritage as long as they meet the proof of acceptance or enrollment as listed above. Aquarium of the Pacific paid employees, Board members, and their immediate families are not eligible. Volunteers and their immediate families are eligible to apply.

Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences, NSF

REU: Fall Semester Student Research in Oceanography and Marine Science at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences
Selected students conduct independent projects under faculty and staff supervision within several research areas. Throughout the semester, REU students will give presentations that outline their research topic, methods, and results, including a final presentation to BIOS faculty, staff, and visiting students. REU students will also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of field excursions to learn about Bermuda’s natural history, flora and fauna as well as workshops and seminars given by BIOS faculty. Open to undergraduate students who have completed at least one year of undergraduate study.

Students will develop research projects ranging from limnology, fisheries biology, conservation and spatial ecology, molecular ecology, and microbial ecology in collaboration with CMU faculty to gain hands-on experience in all parts of the scientific process, from experimental design through data dissemination and translation. Students will engage with multiple stakeholders (e.g. government, private, and cultural) who have interests in Great Lakes resources and will learn to communicate their science to these groups. Open to returning undergraduates with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

As a Cooperative Institute for Climate, Ocean, and Ecosystem Sciences Research inter, students work closely with a mentor, often within the context of a research team, to conduct a research project related to their specific interests. Depending on the project, the summer interns may involve hands-on experience in the field or laboratory, or both. Open to current undergraduate student who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Participants must be returning to an undergraduate program after their summer with CICOES.

Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program Collaborative
The Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program Collaborative is a two-year experiential conservation training program for undergraduates who are interested in careers in conservation and in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field. Scholars take part in applied field research projects, professional internships, mentoring, and form strong professional networks. Scholars learn a variety of field techniques and research and presentation skills. Students are also prepared to help increase diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field of conservation through coursework in communication, creative problem solving, leadership, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Applicants must be enrolled at University of Florida, University of Arizona, University of Idaho, North Carolina State University, or University of Massachusetts Amherst or must show proof that they have been accepted for admission into one of these five universities. Students must also be in their freshman or sophomore year when they apply. Juniors with at least 3 semesters remaining after the current academic year will also be considered. Students must be U.S. Citizens.

Aylesworths believed that scientific knowledge in marine-related areas coupled with decisions based on environmental and conservation factors will prove to be the only way to develop, use and manage our renewable marine resources on a long-term basis. Aylesworth Scholarships are available to students in all Florida universities that conduct research in the marine sciences. The award is for graduate and undergraduate students who are enrolled full-time at a university or college in Florida.
