Maine Sea Grant Undergraduate Scholarship in Marine Science
The goal of Marine Sea Grant Undergraduate Scholarship in Marine Science program is to develop a statewide network of undergraduate scholars doing exemplary academic work on marine and coastal issues, and provide participating students with academic and professional development opportunities in their field. The program is open to current second- and third-year undergraduate students who have declared majors related to marine or coastal issues at any of the participating undergraduate institutions in Maine.

MATE Internships
For students interested in becoming marine technicians on research vessels, MATE is especially looking for students in marine technology, engineering, computer science, or other technical programs at two- year colleges or in their first two years of a baccalaureate degree program. MATE Internships offer land-based and at-sea marine technical internship opportunities for college students. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and an current undergraduate student or very recently graduated from an undergraduate program from a US institution and a citizen of the United States or its possessions.

Mosaics in Science – National Park Service and Environment for the Americas

Mosaics in Science Internship Program
The Mosaics in Science (MIS) Diversity Internship Program provides college students and recent graduates 18-35 years old that are under-represented in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) career fields with on-the-ground, natural resource science-based, work experience in the National Park System. Each internship is comprised of working eleven weeks in a park followed by a four day career workshop held in Washington, D.C. This program is run in partnership with Environment for the Americas. Open to students who are currently enrolled in university degree program related to natural resources, preferably a racial or ethnic minority, able to dedicate 12 weeks of summer to the program.

REU participants are paired with Mote scientists and conduct mentored research projects related to their advisor’s expertise. Students gain experience in science communication by presenting the results of their project in a manuscript-style research paper and orally at a laboratory-wide research symposium. Enrolled in degree program leading to baccalaureate degree. 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher.

TMCF interns will gain valuable professional development experience in environmental/conservation and non-profit work. Interns will work on challenging projects that encourage students to think critically, solve challenging problems, and develop skills and walk away with tangible outcomes to immediately apply to their professional growth. Applicants must be juniors, seniors, recent graduates, or a graduate student at an HBCU with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and at least 17 years old.

Scientist in the Parks Fellowship
Students placed in the National Park System to work on natural resource management needs. Each opportunity with the Scientist in the Parks Fellowship Program affords a distinct and memorable experience with projects that vary based on location, length, focus, and complexity. Past projects include mapping sand dunes at Fire Island National Seashore, surveying towering cacti at Saguaro National Park, and protecting nesting sea turtles at Padre Island National Seashore. Applicant must be enrolled as an upper level undergrad (junior/ senior) and will not graduate before finishing position, or an undergrad that has already earned undergrad degree and has applied to attend grad school. Limited to 30 years or younger; 35 or younger if veteran.

Jose E. Serrano Educational Partnership Program with Minority Serving Institutions (EPP/MSI Undergraduate Scholarship Program)
The scholarship provides funds for two years of undergraduate study to rising junior undergraduate students attending Minority Serving Institutions majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields that directly support NOAA’s mission. Participants conduct research at a NOAA facility during two paid summer internships. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or U.S. nationals currently enrolled as a full-time 2nd year student in a four-year academic program; or transferring from a two-year to a four-year institution; or a 3rd year student in a five-year program, studying a discipline related to NOAA’s programs and mission at an accredited minority serving institution (college or university within the United States or U.S. territories. Must earn and maintain a minimum 3.2 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Margaret A. Davidson Graduate Fellowship
The Margaret A. Davidson Graduate Fellowship is an exciting two-year fellowship program that will place one graduate student at each of the 29 national estuarine research reserves. Through a research project, fellows address a key reserve management need to help scientists and communities understand coastal challenges that may influence future policy and management strategies. The research reserves represent the apex of estuary science. At these coastal sites, fieldwork, research, and community engagement come together to create the scientific advances that change our communities and our world. Eligible applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of U.S. states or territories admitted to or enrolled in a full-time graduate program at a U.S. accredited college or university, working to obtain a master’s or doctoral degree. Applicants must plan to be enrolled for all of the first year, and the majority of the second year, of funding.

Explorer-in-Training Program
The Explorer-in-Training Program interns gain valuable, interdisciplinary experience in ocean exploration while collaborating on OER projects and expeditions. Open to currently enrolled students (undergraduate or graduate) or students who have already graduated, but whose graduation date is within a year of the application date (i.e., gap-year students); students must be enrolled in or have received a degree from an accredited academic institution in the US. Degree, major, or intent to major in STEM fields, social sciences, communications, education, business operations/administration, and ocean policy/management.

Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship
The Hollings Scholarship Program provides successful undergraduate applicants with awards that include academic assistance for two years of full-time study and a 10-week, full-time paid internship at a NOAA facility during the summer. The internship between the first and second years of the award provides the scholars with hands-on, practical experience in NOAA-related science, research, technology, policy, management, and education activities. Applicants must be currently enrolled or accepted at an accredited college or university within the United States or U.S. territories; 2nd or 3rd year student, community college or transfer with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
