Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship
The Hollings Scholarship Program provides successful undergraduate applicants with awards that include academic assistance for two years of full-time study and a 10-week, full-time paid internship at a NOAA facility during the summer. The internship between the first and second years of the award provides the scholars with hands-on, practical experience in NOAA-related science, research, technology, policy, management, and education activities. Applicants must be currently enrolled or accepted at an accredited college or university within the United States or U.S. territories; 2nd or 3rd year student, community college or transfer with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) supports undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing careers in the life sciences through the National Science Foundation, Research Experience for Undergraduates (NSF REU) program. The Biological Discovery in Woods Hole program matches students with faculty member and laboratory at MBL where the student fully participates in all laboratory exercises and activities. The program provides a stipend and room and board for the duration of the program. Students from small colleges or from underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.

A cohort of REU participants will spend ten weeks between early June and mid-August at LUMCON conducting independent research projects with guidance from scientific mentors/mentor teams (from a mentor pool of LUMCON faculty, postdoctoral associates, and/or visiting scientists) while interacting with peers participating in other aspects of LUMCON’s summer programs. Each student is paired with (a) scientific mentor(s) based on mutual research interests.
